Piano Lessons Policies and Prices

Commitment to Scheduling

Most piano students are recommended to take 30 minute lessons each week. 45 minute lessons are also available to higher level students. I also teach adults!

Every student starts with a trial month where the first lesson is free of charge. After those initial four lessons, the student may choose to continue for the semester or withdraw. Should the student choose to continue, they commit to weekly lessons for the semester (September-December, January-May, or June-August). For example, if a student chooses Mondays at 4 pm in September as their lesson slot, that slot is theirs until December and the recurring appointment cannot be changed without agreement from the teacher.

Attendance

If you know you will be absent from a lesson, please let your teacher know as soon as possible! 24 hours’ minimum notice is required if a student is to miss a lesson. Exceptions can be made in the event of illness or emergencies. In these circumstances, a make-up credit will be issued to the student and we can work with you to reschedule the lesson. If the student feels well enough they may also choose to attend a virtual lesson (over FaceTime or Zoom) at their originally scheduled time!

For cancellations due to vacations, students may contact the teacher to find an alternative time to have their lesson or choose to cancel the lesson with notice given when paying for lessons for the month.

In the event that the student forgot about their lesson, no make-up credit will be given and the lesson is considered forfeited.

Materials

The following materials are required for all piano students:

  • Piano – acoustic or weighted keyboard
  • Bench or chair that allows feet to be flat on the floor
  • Recommended curriculum*
  • Pencil
  • Metronome

*need to bring to each lesson

Practicing

All students are expected to practice most days of the week. Duration and frequency varies between all different levels of players and desired level of improvement. I write lesson notes for all students with notes on what/how to practice. I am happy to put together more detailed practice plans for individual students, but my recommendations will vary person to person. Any advice I give on practicing is tailored to you: your schedule, strengths, weaknesses, and learning style!

Billing is on a monthly basis, allowing us to factor your vacations or teacher absences into scheduling and payment with fair notice for both parties.

In-home lessons will require an additional $5 driving fee.

My pricing for private piano lessons is as follows:
